And the winner is… Frankfurt-Hahn
Frankfurt-Hahn has won the Cargo Airport 2007 Award in the category of best performing cargo airport processing between 100,000 to 500,000 tons of cargo per year. The award ceremony for the Cargo Airport of the Year Award, an initiative of the international professional journal Air Cargo News, formed part of a gala dinner given at the London Royal Lancaster Hotel that was attended by more than 600 cargo experts.
"We are greatly honoured that our achievements in our category have been judged to be on a par with those of Dubai International Airport and Fujairah Airport, the winners of the other Cargo Airport of the Year Award categories. This is a great distinction for Frankfurt-Hahn Airport's cargo operations and marketing. I would very much like to pass on all the applause and praise we received this evening to all of our staff at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport," said Maria Muller, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hunsrück airport. "I would also like to extend special thanks to our colleagues working round the clock in shifts on the apron processing large cargo aircraft and – of course – to all of our cargo customers who place their trust in our products, services and proficiency. We are very proud of this award and it represents a great mark of distinction for Frankfurt-Hahn Airport as a whole."
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is Germany's fourth-largest cargo airport and is one of the most important cargo staging posts in the world. Its geographical location right in the centre of Europe, its apron's proximity to major roads and vice versa and 24-hour operating permit are some of its most important competitive advantages. Well-coordinated operational procedures, internal logistics at the airport and the presence of the offices of all authorities of importance to the overall approval process at Frankfurt-Hahn are also of great value. Well-known airfreight carriers such as Aeroflot, Air France Cargo and Egypt Air have been relying on the flexibility, individual customer service and straightforward cargo handling procedures in place at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport for many years now. The newly crowned 'Best Cargo Airline of the Year and Best Cargo Airline to the Indian Sub-continent', Etihad Crystal Cargo, also started operating 4 flights a week between Dubai and Frankfurt-Hahn in May 2007. The needs of Frankfurt-Hahn's cargo customers are more than well taken care of by the logistics companies ACL Advanced Cargo Logistic GmbH, Fraport Cargo Services and VG Cargo who offer cargo airlines a range of excellent services on the airport's 20,000 square-metre large aircraft and cargo processing area.
