The experts in special shipments

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, 13th August 2002.Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is putting its capabilities to the test in the special shipment area more and more frequently. Freight goods of all kinds, from generators via production machinery to complete tramcars, have already been sent on their way from here. A particularly important role in this regard is played by the Antonov 124, one of the biggest cargo aircraft in the world. Thanks to the large loading hatches, even items of freight with sizeable dimensions can be transported by this means.

This was shown again by the shipment of the previous Saturday. Items of freight with up to 54 cubic metres hold capacity were loaded by Danzas AEI into an Antonov 124 of Antonov Airlines. The heaviest individual item with dimensions of 4 metres long, 3.80 metres wide and 3.40 metres high weighed 15 tonnes. In total, the shipment was around 76 tonnes. The destination was Charlotte in the USA.

An Antonov 124 has been deployed some 26 times already this year in Frankfurt-Hahn and has conveyed about 2000 tonnes of cargo. In total, from January till the end of July 2002, circa 78,842 tonnes of cargo have been transhipped. Frankfurt-Hahn thus lies in fourth place amongst the German cargo airports, directly behind Frankfurt, Cologne/Bonn and Munich.
