Jörg Berres bids farewell to Hahn Airport
Hahn, 20 February 2001. After six years involvement in the management of the Airport Company, Jörg Berres is bidding farewell to Hahn Airport and is taking over new duties at the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture.
As official adviser on conversion matters to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Jörg Berres has had a crucial involvement with the conversion project at Hahn Airport since 1991. In 1995 he was appointed to the airport management as representative of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and played an important role in the conversion of the former American airforce base into a civil airport. Now that the execution of the Hahn project has been successfully and extensively completed, he is taking over the function of State Co-ordinator for the transfer of the American Rhine-Main strike forces to Spangdahlem and Ramstein.
Jörg Berres was born in Wittlich on 2 September 1958 and, after his time in the army, studied communications engineering in Koblenz. Two years of employment in the process optimisation field at the IBM factory in Mainz were followed by a study of economics and social politics at the University of Erlangen, Nürnberg. His employment with the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture for the State of Rhineland-Palatinate began in November 1989. There he took over the Department for the Reduction of the Armed Forces and Conversion in 1991.
