Air BP on course for tanking in the Hunsrück
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, 3 December 2004 – On 1 December 2004, Air BP opened a new, independent tanking operation at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. With that, the BP-group company is offering all airlines its secure and reliable aircraft kerosene tanking service in Hunsrück, also. Six employees and an operations manager – four of these new employees hired from the region – are responsible for smooth 24-hour a day operations on-site. They acquired the first customer– the Russian freight carrier Aeroflot – even before the opening. In addition to Shell, Air BP is now the second supplier at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
„We are the market leader among the aircraft and lubricant suppliers in Germany and deliver to more than 50 German airports. We couldn’t allow Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, with its consistently increasing growth rates in both the passenger and freight sectors, to be missing from our customer list. We see a future at Hahn and are pleased to be have become active here“, says Thorsten Luft, Managing Director of Air BP Deutschland. The first major customer – Russia’s largest airline, Aeroflot, already present at Hahn for over 4 years with its cargo activities – was convinced shortly before the start of services.
„We especially welcome Air BP’s start-up. They are now the second tanking service supplier at Hahn. Above all, our customers endorse this decision as they expect competition among the petrol suppliers“, comments Jörg Schumacher, Managing Director of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
The Air BP station- and service team are accommodated very close to the airfield apron and are managed by Jens Nebel, the operations manager. Two of his six employees, coming from the main office in Hamburg, will be working on-site for a while in order to impart their professional expertise to their colleagues. Equipped with four airfield tank trucks, the company disposes over a volume of 180,000 litres of jet kerosene A-1, deliverable at all times.
