Frankfurt Hahn picks AirRep to spearhead drive for VIP and general aviation business
Frankfurt Hahn Airport has upgraded and rationalized its VIP and general aviation handling with the appointment of AirRep GmbH as exclusive handler for all aircraft up to 15 passengers.
The appointment is effective from March 2004, and reduces the number of airside security checkpoint, in line with German civil aviation moves to comply with the latest EU aviation security regulations. Frankfurt Hahn Airport will continue to provide handling and security for all larger aircraft through its recently-expanded main terminal building, which can accommodate five millions passengers annually.
AirRep’s appointment as exclusive VIP and General Aviation handler is also intended to add to the airport’s appeal in these markets. In 2003, the airport saw almost 5000 movements of aircraft in the under-15 pax sector. Frankfurt Hahn’s drive for increased Executive and General Aviation business will focus on its high-speed processing capability, its ideal location, its competitive charges and its 24 hours operations, seven days a week.
“With increased security measures throughout Europe, it is more attractive for VIPs to utilize private jets,” says Maria Muller, Frankfurt Hahn’s Marketing Director. The AirRep facility adjoins the aircraft parking area, and has everything under one roof: business lounge, security and passport checking. There is no need to enter the main terminal building, and this makes it much more convenient. Processing of inbound crew and passengers to landside is typically achieved in 10-15 minutes.
“Frankfurt Hahn Airport can offer tremendous benefits for this market. Both the Airport and AirRep are open 24 hours, 7 days per week, and Frankfurt Hahn does not require pre-booked slots for inbound aircraft. The airport is also just over 1 hour by road from the city of Frankfurt, and 1hour 45 minutes from Cologne. At the same time, our charges are very competitive compared to the larger airports, reflecting their focus on mainstream scheduled traffic.”
Concludes Maria Muller: “The decision to appoint AirRep to this important role was made because of their successful track record in handling here, and the very positive customer feedback we have received so far. AirRep’s resources and expertise will further increase Frankfurt Hahn’s appeal to this important and growing market sector.”
AirRep has been providing Executive and General Aviation handling for helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft at Frankfurt Hahn for three years. To accommodate its newly expanded responsibility, the company has increased its workforce to 16, and has undergone a three-fold growth of its terminal space. Investments have also been made in staff security training; upgrading security systems and the erection of a security compound area. Further expansion of the AirRep facility will take place in line with growth in demand.
The AirRep terminal facility is ideally located just 10m from the aircraft parking area, which can accommodate at least 15 aircraft simultaneously. Facilities include a briefing/debriefing suite, ops room, showers, TV, telephone, fax and broadband internet connection. An on-site kitchen serves snacks and full hot meals prepared in AirRep’s own on-airport catering unit.
AirRep’s services include local collection and delivery of crews and VIP passengers, and a booking service for accommodation, self-drive car hire and chauffeured limousines.
AirRep also provides full aircraft in-flight catering and duty-free services for passenger and cargo airlines operating through Frankfurt Hahn; clients include Ryanair.
