Frankfurt-Hahn is as successful as success

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, March 2004 - Frankfurt-Hahn Airport continues to go from strength to strength: During the first 60 days of this year, passenger and freight figures showed substantial growth. The freight volume handled at the solely international civil airport in Rhineland Palatinate increased by 109 percent, passenger numbers increased by 27 percent compared with the previous year. The forecast for 2004 indicates that there is more to come.

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, the only genuine low-cost airport in Germany, continues to step up the pace. The total number of passengers during the first 60 days of 2004 was more than 360,000, an increase of 27 percent compared with the previous year (Jan./Feb. 2003: 285,852). With these figures Frankfurt-Hahn Airport holds its position as the 10th largest international airport in Germany since 2003 solidly in terms of passenger numbers.

The freight volume during January and February 2004 amounted to almost 8,500 tonnes – meaning an increase of 109 percent excluding road feeder service compared with the previous year (Jan./Feb. 2003: 4,046 tonnes). Freight exports showed an increase of almost 4,100 tonnes or 139 percent up to the end February 2004 (Jan./Feb. 2003: just over 1,700 tonnes). The total air freight volume including road feeder services was more than 26,000 tonnes, an increase of 29 percent compared with the previous year (Jan./Feb. 2003: 20,500 tonnes). This makes Frankfurt-Hahn the fourth largest freight airport in Germany.

Andreas Helfer, managing director of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport GmbH, said: "We are very proud about these results - especially given that many other international airports in Germany are struggling with negative growth rates". For 2004, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport predicts a total of 3.6 million passengers (previous year: over 2.4 million passengers) and a total freight volume of almost 200,000 tonnes (previous year: 159,000 tonnes).

Since 1 January 2004, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport has been a member of the International Civil Airports group set up by the German Airports Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Verkehrsflughäfen, ADV) and is therefore the only international civil airport in Rhineland Palatinate. The ADV member airports currently include 19 international civil airports, 39 regional airports and airfields and three special airports.
