Airport Frankfurt-Hahn prepared for 747-8 Freighter
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport has, with completion of the so-called RESA area (Runway End Safety Area), the official approval for the 747-8 Freighter. Many airlines change their fleet to this modern and quieter type of cargo aircraft.
The RESA area is a 300 x 150 m large mound, that ensures, that aircraft having take-off or landing problems can taxi to a standstill safely. In the period from July until October 2013, approximately 110,000 m³ of earth masses were moved. The area was completed on October 31st. The official approval by the Civil Aviation Authority ( LBM ) arrived yesterday.
The project has cost four million Euros. The first 747-8 Freighter already landed at Hahn with a special permit in October. Being the fifth-largest cargo airport of Germany, Hahn fulfills another international standard.
