Frankfurt-Hahn airport is the “Cargo Airport of the Year 2012”
Last weekend, the air cargo magazine Air Cargo News honoured Frankfurt-Hahn Airport with the “Cargo Airport of the Year 2012” award in London. The airport scored with the highest freight growth in the category up to 300,000 t.
Freight growth at the airport stemmed, in particular, from own volumes. The freight loaded or unloaded at Hahn airport increased by 33 percent in 2011 compared to the previous year. The magazine’s awards are regarded as being the “Oscars” in the air freight industry.
The airport also received an award at the “Passenger Terminal Expo” in Vienna, where the UK consulting company Skytrax issued its “World Airport Awards” in the middle of April. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport took fifth place in the category “World’s Best Low-Cost Airport”. London-Stansted took first place. 12 million passengers were questioned, and they rated the airport in almost 40 categories, such as processing and service quality. Skytrax, a company specializing in aviation and consumer is-sues, has been performing these surveys on a regular basis since 1999 and is re-garded as being independent.
The Hahn airport received its first award for the year in March. The international freight magazine “Air Cargo World” honoured Hahn with its “Excellence Award”. In a survey, readers rated the quality of processing, the cost/benefits ratio, facilities for freight processing and the performance of the authorities involved.
